As we continue to work hard to fuel the recovery of the industry and strengthen opportunities for business growth, we’re pleased to announce the extension of our six-year partnership with HotelRunner, a sales channel management platform and B2B network for OTAs and hoteliers.

This positive news means that once long-haul travel recovers, Hotelbeds’ travel trade buyers will provide the accommodation partners of HotelRunner with high value, incremental reservations from non-domestic markets. HotelRunner will also continue to provide Hotelbeds’ travel distribution clients with access to significant additional hotel partners globally, with wider coverage in the United States, LATAM, Africa and South East Asia

Hotelbeds extends its partnership with HotelRunner

Coming hot on the heels of our Green Hotels Programme launch, which identifies, highlights and promotes sustainable accommodation within our hotel portfolio, we are pleased to announce our certification as a carbon neutral company for the third year in a row, another ‘plus’ in our ambition to fuel the recovery by doing all that we can to show we are a responsible, ethical business.

Certified through analysis of our carbon footprint by the independent body, Carbon Footprint Ltd, the accreditation demonstrates our commitment over the past three years to reduce our environmental impact and ensure long-term sustainability by offsetting the carbon emissions we generate.

But how have we done it?&nbsp;

During 2018, we created a programme where a fee was paid for every business flight taken by an employee. &nbsp;The money generated was then used to finance a carbon neutral project, helping to encourage reduction in travel and increase awareness around the importance of carbon offsetting.

The funds raised from this programme were also donated to the Portel-Pará Deforestation Project, located in the Brazilian Amazon, home to the largest remaining rainforest on our planet, to help prevent unplanned deforestation.

In 2019, Hotelbeds chose to give the funds to the Renewable Energy Project in India which manages the installation of solar panels across the country.

And this year, Hotelbeds will be supporting the Verified Carbon Standard certified Guohua Tongliao Kezuo Zhongqi Phase 1 Wind Power project in China, which aims to reduce carbon emissions through the displacement of fossil fuels. This project will also help to combat climate change and protect our environment for future generations.

As part of the certification process, carbon emission calculations – including energy and paper consumptions, waste management, business travel and water supply – were conducted by Hotelbeds, using metrics devised by Carbon Footprint Ltd.

Carbon Footprint Ltd has also successfully completed a verification of the carbon footprint assessment for Hotelbeds. This included spot-checking source data from across the company as well as reviewing the overall methodology.

Hotelbeds certified as carbon neutral for the third year running

The full-year findings (broken down by weeks) from our joint research project with Skift have been released.

Back in June, we entered the Skift Recovery Index (SRI) collaboration project to better understand the impact COVID has had across the globe while helping to map out a recovery process.&nbsp;

The SRI is a real-time measure of where the travel industry stands in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and provides us all with a powerful tool for strategic planning in this currently volatile business climate.

This latest report looks back on December and highlights Russia, the US and India's resurgence in travel over this period. It also shows that while the industry as a whole experienced a downturn, vacation rentals seemed to be the highlight of 2020.&nbsp;

2020 in review: The full-year report from our research collaboration with Skift is published

Recently we have entered into an agreement with Rappi, Latin America’s first ‘superApp’.

&nbsp;

Rappi already has millions of users and the company recently launched its ‘Rappi Travel’ vertical, taking a big step towards consolidation as the most relevant application in Latin America.

As a result of our partnership, the 180,000 hotel properties working with Hotelbeds will now be available to millions of Rappi Travel users in Latin America. This includes in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, plus corporate travellers from its brand Travel 4Business – with users from Argentina, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador and Costa Rica gaining access in 2021.

Thanks to this collaboration, Rappi’s clients in Latin America gain access to Hotelbeds’ extensive portfolio in 140 countries worldwide. This means access to exclusive rates and conditions from the best hotel properties globally thanks to Hotelbeds’ best-in-class contracting team worldwide.

Hotelbeds increases presence in Latin America

This year we launched SelfSeT’, a self-service toolkit to help clients resolve their most common queries in the fastest and most convenient way possible.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

As part of this initiative in the summer time we launched a Livechat feature and a chatbot called Bedsy. Hopefully you are using those already? 

By automatically responding to clients’ queries Bedsy is able to save valuable time for clients and maximise the efficiency of Hotelbeds’ Contact Centres. Equally Livechat means our Contact Centre agents are instantly accessible to our clients and thus can handle customers’ enquiries quicker.

More recently we have introduced new functionalities that allow you to modify bookings easily. This includes to:

Recently we announced a new strategic agreement with Magnuson Hotels, the fast growing global franchise alternative brand.

&nbsp;

This agreement provides Magnuson with access to our high-value distribution network of more than 60,000 travel trade buyers including tour operators, retail travel agents, airlines and loyalty programs across more than 140 source markets worldwide.

Meanwhile our portfolio of travel buyers offers Magnuson – when the full recovery begins – incremental, high value bookings from non-domestic markets that typically book further in advance, pay more per room, cancel less and spend more at the property.

What does this mean for our clients? Access to preferential rates and availability from across Magnuson Hotels' portfolio including the Magnuson Grand, Magnuson Hotel, M Star Hotel, and an exclusive By Magnuson Worldwide collection brands.

Magnuson will distribute its hotel rooms through both our main channels: wholesale distribution under the 'Hotelbeds' brand and the retail channel, Bedsonline, that exclusively caters to retail travel agents.

Book preferential rates at Ascott hotels globally 

If you have travellers that are concerned about sustainability issues when searching for their next hotel booking, then we have a solution for you.

To fulfil this need we have now launched something called The Green Hotels Programme, that allows you to show your customers which hotels are certified as sustainable in the search process. 

Already over 15,000 hotel properties are now easily identifiable via a new green filter that includes details of certifications and offer tags.

To certify these properties as sustainable, we’ve partnered with global sustainability certification companies to identify fully certified hotel properties following the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) for hotels.

The criteria are organized around four main themes: effective sustainability planning, maximizing social and economic benefits for the local community,&nbsp;enhancing cultural heritage, and reducing negative impacts on the environment.
